Leroy "Lee" Victor Kottke

January 15, 1933 — November 12, 2024

On Tuesday, November 12th, 2024, Leroy V. Kottke of Slinger, WI, passed away at the age of 91. Lee was born on January 15th, 1933, in Little Wolf, WI to loving parents, Victor and Minnie Kottke (Miller). He graduated, with honors, from UW-Oshkosh and achieved a Master of Science degree from UW-Madison. After teaching in Waupun for seven years he was selected for a National Science Foundation Academic Year Institute grant-in-aid and completed a second Master of Science at Syracuse University. He then joined Nicolet High School to be at the forefront of math education. He was an innovative leader in the mathematics world, from laying the groundwork for Nicolet’s successful AP Math Program in the 60s, to pioneering the introduction of calculators and graphics for math classrooms in the 90s. He held many leadership positions in the WI Math Council and conducted numerous workshops locally and nationally. As evidenced by numerous thank you notes, he not only conveyed an understanding of mathematics but influenced the professional lives of countless students.

Lee married the love of his life, Magdalen (Mae) Kolb on June 2, 1956. They met at Oshkosh High School. He would often reminisce about Mae visiting him as he scooped ice cream at the Sunlight Dairy. They maintained an incredible bond through life’s joys and sorrows, always communicating and showing respect for each other. Together they enjoyed traveling nationally and internationally, home improvement projects, volunteering at church, and raising two children.

Lee and Mae were devoted parents and grandparents building a warm and loving family and encouraging new experiences with a sense of fairness and a gentle spirit. Awesome family memories include boating, fishing, camping, annual 4th of July family celebrations and Lake Tahoe Christmas gatherings.

Those Lee leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 68 years, Mae; daughter, Shelley and her husband, Art Reimann; grandchildren; Jason Reimann, Rachel and her husband Brandon Dumovich, Jacob Kottke and Jena Kottke along with many extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by his infant son, Paul Robert, his adult son, Michael Lee (November 12, 2020) and infant sister, Donna.
