Leslie R. Ostrander, 85, of Kewaskum, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center in the town of West Bend.
He was born on September 6, 1928, in Barton, the son of the late Claude and Hilda (Homuth) Ostrander, and on August 6, 1955, he was united in marriage to Eleanore Seefeldt at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum.
Leslie proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and he was employed by the Gehl Company in West Bend retiring after 37 years of service.
Leslie was a member of St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum, the West Bend V.F.W. Post 1393 and the Korean War Veteran Corporal Richard Bell Chapter 111 West Bend. He was an active participant of the honor guard and the color guard for many years.
Leslie was a loving husband and dedicated father. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing the accordion and organ and gardening. He will fondly be remembered as a expert handy man who could fix "anything" and for all the wood he cut over the years. Leslie will be deeply missed by his wife, his family and by all who knew him.
Those Leslie leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 58 years, Eleanore; five children, Nancy (Jerry) Nehrbass of Campbellsport, Sue (Keith) Polster of Theresa, Janet (William) Zingsheim and Karen (Dave) Jungmann both of West Bend and William (Tracy) Ostrander of Campbellsport; eight grandchildren, Jessica Howell, Timothy (Jenny) Howell, Matthew (Jackie) Polster, Jason (Kristina) Polster, Zachary Polster, Michelle (Robert) Wiedmeyer, Michael Zingsheim and William Ostrander; eight great-grandchildren, Joshua, Anthony, Jordan and Jasmine Polster, Gregory and Joseph Howell, Michael Parker and Tanner Wiedmeyer; two brothers-in-law, Allen (Lucille) Seefeldt of Ocala, Florida and William (Irene) Seefeldt of Kewaskum; a sister-in-law, Iris Seefeldt of Campbellsport, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Leslie was preceded in death by two brothers, Lyle (Hilda) Ostrander and Alvah (Ruby) Ostrander; two grandsons, Joshua Polster and Gregory Howell Jr.; two brothers-in-law, Harold Seefeldt and Merlin (Judy) Seefeldt and a sister-in-law, LaDonna Seefeldt.
Funeral services for Leslie were held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum with Rev. Timothy Henning officiating. Military honor rites followed the service and cremation took place after the traditional service. Burial of his cremains will be in Lutheran Memorial Park in Kewaskum at a later date.
The Ostrander family greeted relatives and friends at the church on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.
Memorials to St. Lucas Lutheran Church or Cedar Community Hospice are appreciated.
The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum was entrusted with Leslie's arrangements.
Leslie's family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Cedar Community and Cedar Community Hospice for the compassionate care provided to Leslie.
