Lester E. Zitlow

July 30, 1921 — November 29, 2012

Lester E. Zitlow, 91, of the town of Lomira, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2012, at Hope Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lomira.


He was born on July 30, 1921, in Fond du Lac, the son of the late Walter and Molly (Rost) Zitlow, and on June 21, 1947, he was united in marriage to Ruth Halle at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac. Ruth preceded Lester in death on August 28, 2000.


Lester served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II from 1942-45. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brownsville, a member of the Knowles Fire Department and Brownsville Fire Department for many years and a member of the Bintzler-Waehler American Legion Post 347 Lomira. He farmed in the Brownsville area for many years and later was employed by Waas Boring retiring in 1995.


Those Lester leaves behind to cherish his memory include two sons, Richard (Sandra) Zitlow of Lomira and Donald (Barb) Zitlow of Jackson; five grandchildren, Kevin Zitlow, Keith (Courtney) Zitlow, Nicole (Christopher) Winiecki, Christy Zitlow and Ryan Zitlow; six great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Brady Zitlow, Ella and Gavin Winiecki, Quinn and Zoey Zitlow; a sister, Doris May Holterman of Micca, Florida; two brothers-in-law, Howard Bahr of Fond du Lac and Harold (Geri) Halle of Lomira, other relatives and friends.


In addition to his wife and parents, Lester was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Bernard Zitlow and two sisters, Marjorie Immel and Marguerite Bahr.


Funeral services for Lester were held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2012, at the Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home in Lomira. Rev. William Carter officiated and entombment followed in the Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in Fond du Lac.


Relatives and friends called at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated.


The Zitlow family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Hope Health and Rehabilitation Center for the compassionate care provided to Lester.
