Ligia L. "Lilly" Gindt, 71, of Lomira, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2014, at St. Joseph's Hospital, West Bend.
She was born on April 15, 1943, in Siuna, Nicaragua, the daughter of the late Ernesto and Graciela (Zepeda) Ortega. The Sisters of St. Agnes facilitated for Ligia and her sister Socorro to come to the United States from Nicaragua in 1961 to attend Marian College Fond du Lac. The Sisters of St. Agnes were very instrumental in their transition to their new lives and opportunities in the United States. Lilly’s life would not have been how it was without the unconditional support and love from the Sisters of St. Agnes.
On June 19, 1963, she was united in marriage to John Gindt at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lomira. Lilly was a loving caregiver to her children and family. She was a very hospitable person and enjoyed the company of family and friends. She enjoyed world travel and being “On The Road Again”.
Lilly was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lomira and will fondly be remembered as one who enjoyed antique collecting and dealing. She loved cooking for family get-togethers. She will be deeply missed by her husband, family and by all who knew her.
Those Lilly leaves behind to cherish her memory include her husband, John; four children, Mark Gindt (fiancee, Joannie Grosenick) of Richfield, Brenda (Jim) Gindt O'Brien of Linthicum, Maryland, Tony (Joanne) Gindt of Germantown and Brian (Sharon) Gindt of Chandler, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Melissa Gindt and Elizabeth (Lucas) Smith; a great-granddaughter, Baileigh Smith; Joannie’s children, Jake and Allison Grosenick; three sisters, Socorro Masse of Woodland Hills, California, Meylin Scollon of Rancho Cucamonga, California and Marina (George) Manouseles of Anaheim, California; two sisters-in-law, Dolores (Ernie) Kraus of Fond du Lac and Kathleen Gindt of Lomira, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents, Lilly was preceded in death by four brothers-in-law, Michel Maas, Lyle Scollon, Norman and Rodney Gindt and a sister-in-law, Mary Ellen Gindt.
A Memorial Mass for Lilly was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lomira. Father Michael Petersen officiated and burial of Lilly’s cremains followed in the parish cemetery.
Lilly’s family greeted relatives and friends at the Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
The family would like to thank the outstanding caregivers at Froedtert Healthcare Hartford and West Bend.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Sisters of St. Agnes Retirement Fund, St. Mary's Building Maintenance Fund or Mass stipends.
