Lila Mae Marie LaPiene (nee Goeman) of West Bend was born to eternal life on November 8, 2017 at the age of 87. Lila was born on July 29, 1930 the only child of the late Albert Goeman and Aurelia Goeman (née Fredrich).
Lila was a graduate of Washington High School in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, received an associates degree from Manitowoc County Normal School, and became a rural school teacher in Collins, WI.
Lila married the love of her life, the late Joseph H. LaPiene on October 12, 1952 and they were blessed with 52 years of marriage until his death in 2010. Together they raised three daughters, Lorelei (Timothy) Leach of Cedarburg, Lisa (John) Oakley of Shelton, CT, and Lizbeth (Troy) Thomas of Sussex, WI. She was also the proud grandmother to seven grandchildren, Bradley Leach, Alexandra Oakley, Paige Oakley, Jay Oakley, T.J. (Christina)Thomas, Ashlyn Thomas, and Graham Thomas.
In her Christian faith, Lila loved the Lutheran tradition and enjoyed lifelong membership, most recently at St. John's West Bend. Lila was passionately committed to serving her family by creating a warm and loving home. She was an avid crafter, enjoyed theater, travel, and conversation with anyone that was interested. She will be missed by family and friends alike.
The family wishes to thank the caring and compassionate staff at Cedar Lake Health & Rehabilitation, West Bend and Kim Krier who lovingly served Lila allowing her to remain in her own home for as long as possible.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19 beginning at 2 pm at St. John's Lutheran Church, 809 S. 6th Ave. West Bend, with a Memorial Service immediately following at 3 pm. The Rev. Dave Kellerman will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. John's Lutheran School, West Bend would be appreciated.
