Jesus opened his arms to Lois M. O’Rourke of Lomira and called Lois to her heavenly home on, Monday, March 23, 2009, at the age of 90 years. There she was joyfully reunited with her beloved husband, Corney, her daughter, Nancy Jean, her parents Bill and Lydia (Fenner) Kindschuh, many other relatives and friends.
Those who will miss her here include her dear children, Donna and Jim Pieper of West Bend, Bill and Jane O’Rourke of Milwaukee, and Diane and Ron Ruenger of Sauk City. Those who called her “Grandma O” include Matt and Julie Pieper, Michelle and Kurt Gustafson, Stacey and Trent Brown, Mark and Heather Pieper, Cory and Krystal O’Rourke, Jeremy Ruenger, Katie and John Hirsch, Tom O’Rourke and Christine O’Rourke and her great-grandchildren, Jessica, Sara, Erin, Emmett, Allie, Kyla, Bryce, Austin, Zackery, Jazmyne, Emalyn, Kaylin, Kiersten, Ryan, Nicholas and Anna. Lois was the dear sister of Nieta Hayes, Evelyn Sprecher, Doris Koenig, Bill and Marta Kindschuh and sister-in-law to Margaret Hoffman, Delores O’Rourke and Jeanette O’Rourke. She had many nieces and nephews and dear friends with whom she shared many a lunch out and a game of dominos.
To the end, Lois had a love for reading that she shared with her children. She enjoyed used book sales and finding bargains. She was so thankful for her eyesight because even when her body got tired, she could still sit and read. She enjoyed recipe books and was still trying out new treats to share with family and friends. It was never a surprise to get a container of homemade cookies or sticky buns. Her “Grandma O’ Rolls” were a family favorite.
Despite her health problems and the frailty that came with age, Lois often remarked about how blessed and happy her life had been. Her Christian faith sustained her through many losses including her toddler daughter in 1945 and her husband, Corney in 1997. This faith comforted her and gave her peace at the end of her life. She was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Lomira.
According to her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. She hoped that her family would gather at Ebenezer Cemetery on a beautiful spring day and commingle her ashes with those of her husband. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 300 Church Street in Lomira.
