Lucille E. Butzke

Lucille E. Butzke, 90, of Kewaskum, passed away on Monday, August 16, 2010, at Cedar Lake Health Care Center in the town of West Bend.


She was born on August 12, 1920, in Kewaskum, the daughter of the late Herman and Elsie (Backhaus) Backhaus, and on May 3, 1940, she was united in marriage to Elroy Butzke at Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum. Elroy preceded Lucille in death on December 28, 1999.


Lucille was a lifelong member of Peace United Church of Christ in Kewaskum and the Ladies Guild. Her early years of employment were with Rosenheimer’s Store and Regal Ware, Inc. in Kewaskum. After her third child was born, Lucille remained at home to raise her family. She was a loving and devoted mother who made many sacrifices for the benefit of her children.


While a resident of Cedar Community, Lucille was very active in many activities participating in the Cedar Community choir, the Cedar Community band, the baking club, and was a resident representative on the Board of Directors. She also enjoyed playing bingo, weekly Bible study and attending church services.


Lucille will fondly be remembered for her love of music, gardening, baking, sewing, church and her deep faith that brought her strength through her journey through life. She will be deeply missed by her family and by all who knew her.


Those Lucille leaves behind to cherish her memory include five children, Bonnie (Thomas) Skrentny of Kewaskum, Robert (Kathy) Butzke of West Bend, Thomas (Terry) Butzke of Wauconda, Illinois, Jane (Rev. Robert) Laubenstein of Green Bay and Kelly (Dr. Craig) Rosenthal of Kewaskum; a son-in-law, Robert Teeple of Kewaskum; a brother, Victor (Rose Marie) Backhaus of Kewaskum; two sisters-in-law, Gertrude Backhaus of West Bend and Shirley Butzke of Campbellsport; 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.


In addition to her husband and parents, Lucille was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Woolman; three brothers, Frederick Backhaus, Carl (Beulah) Backhaus and Myron “Cisco” Backhaus; a brother-in-law, Raymond Butzke and a sister-in-law, Lauretta Stange.


Funeral services for Lucille were held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 20, 2010, at Peace United Church of Christ, 343 First Street in Kewaskum. Her son-in-law, Rev. Robert Laubenstein, officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.


Relatives and friends called on Friday at the church from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services.
