Lucille Faye Koch (nee Johnson) age 97, of West Bend, went to be with her Father in Heaven on Saturday July 27, 2013 after a long and fulfilling life. She was born May 8, 1916 in rural South Dakota to the late Gilbert and Hattie (nee Helgeland) Johnson. Lucille grew up near Mitchell, SD and graduated from Letcher High School in the class of 1936. She finished her advanced studies and became a teacher working in several rural one room schools in Davidson and Sanborn Counties. She also worked in Mitchell, SD at the Scallon Drug Store. On April 9, 1950 Lucille was united in marriage to Paul W. Koch in Mitchell and moved to Wisconsin settling in West Bend where they raised two children. Lucille and Paul had a God-filled life together. She worked at the ASCS Office in West Bend when she returned to the working world. After a few years Lucille moved to the West Bend School system as a Kindergarten aide and later worked as an aide with children and youth with disabilities. She retired in 1980 to care for her mother and her husband. Lucille is survived by her daughter, Paula (Koch) Canby of West Bend; a daughter-in-law, Mary (Johnson) Koch of West Bend; four grandchildren, Christian (Leanna) Canby of Pasadena, MD, Ross (Kimberly) Canby of Pierre, SD, Matthew (Lindsey Wagner) Koch of Denver, CO, and Karla Koch of Montrose, CO; two great grandchildren, Colton James Canby and Kendall Joy Canby; a sister- in-law, Eileen (Snow) Johnson of Pierre, SD; nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Lucille was preceded in death by her loving husband, Paul in 1981; son, Luke in 2010; grandson, Jeremy William Canby in 1979; two sisters, Genevieve (Elmer) Taplin, and baby sister Elizabeth; three brothers, Laverne (Evelyn, nee Stahl) Johnson, Darrell (Alice, nee Talbot) Johnson, and Doyle Johnson; three sisters- in- law, Esther Koch, Pearl Koch, and Ella (Milton) Roell; two brothers- in- law, Edward (Louise, nee Hoffman) Koch, and baby Chester Koch. Funeral services in remembrance of Lucille will be held on Friday August 2nd at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church (140 N. 7th Ave.) West Bend. Rev. David Schoob and Rev. Richard Suero will co-officiate. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Interment will follow in Washington County Memorial Park. Memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church, West Bend, or Faith/Santa Fe Lutheran Church, Milwaukee would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to thank the staff of Countryside at Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation for their love and tremendous care of Lucille over the past two and one half years.
