Lucille M. “Lucy” McCarty, 87, of Kewaskum, passed away on Friday, June 29, 2007 at The Kathy Hospice in the Town of Polk, after a short illness.
She was born on October 18, 1919, in Barton, the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Sauer) Van Beek and she graduated from West Bend High School in June 1937. Lucy proudly served her country during World War II in the U.S. Navy WAVES from 1945 to 1946, and was assigned to the 12th U.S. Naval District in San Francisco.
On June 10, 1969, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” McCarty at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in West Bend. Her husband preceded her in death on April 2, 1999.
Lucy was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Kewaskum, Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post 384 Kewaskum and the Barton Historical Society. She was involved in the family business as co-owner and bookkeeper at Van Beek Motor Sales Chrysler-Plymouth and Van Beek Cycle for 28 years, before retiring in 1965.
Lucy’s sharp wit, sense of humor, her love of the small beautiful things in life and her independent spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include a brother, Ervin (Rosemary) Van Beek of West Bend; a stepson, Michael (Diane) McCarty of Madison; a brother-in-law, John F. “Bud” (Gloria) McCarty of Campbellsport; a niece, Lori (Stan) Heisler of Kewaskum; a nephew, Thomas (Barbara) Van Beek of West Bend; special friends, Steve (Diane) Liegl of Kewaskum, Sandra Bohn of West Bend, Geraldine (Mike) Heppe and Kay (Lester) Cichanski both of Brookfield, Maureen Otten of San Diego, California, Marie Toma of West Bend, other dear family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Lucy was preceded by three brothers-in-law, John T. McCarty, George McCarty and Daniel McCarty and three sisters-in-law, Helen Marcotte, Mary Hron and Alice Baucom.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Lucy was held at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2007 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 331 Main Street, Kewaskum with Father Edwin Kornath officiating. Military rites followed Mass. Burial was at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in West Bend.
Relatives and friends called on Friday at the church from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to The Kathy Hospice, Holy Trinity Catholic Church or St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church are appreciated.
