Lucille L. Zahn, 88, a resident of Hope Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lomira, and former resident of Lakeview Assisted Living in Fond du Lac, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2009.
She was born on May 26, 1921, in the township of Oakfield, the daughter of the late Fred and Nora (Wild) Collien, and on September 5, 1942, she was united in marriage to Donald Zahn at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakfield. Her husband preceded her in death on March 14, 2000.
Lucille was a graduate of Oakfield High School and Dodge County Normal School. She later received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Marian College in Fond du Lac. She taught in elementary schools in Fond du Lac County for 45 years, retiring in 1986.
After retiring, Lucille and her husband moved to Northern Wisconsin in the Minocqua-Arbor Vitae area to their new home and resort in the Northwoods located on the west shore of Big Arbor Vitae Lake where they operated their resort, Zahn’s Whispering Pines. The couple enjoyed fishing, boating, bird watching and the Northwoods in general. Lucille also did substitute teaching in the Northwoods of Wisconsin for several years. Lucille relocated to Fond du Lac in October 2002.
She was a member of St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakfield, the Fond du Lac Senior Center and the Fond du Lac Area Retired Education Association.
Survivors include two brothers, Milton (Dorothy) Collien and Lyle (Phyllis) Collien both of Oakfield; a sister-in-law, Lucile Polzean of Fond du Lac, close nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Lucille was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn (Alfred Sr.) Kohli and a brother-in-law, Butch Polzean.
Funeral services for Lucille were held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2009, at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 245 S. Second Street in Oakfield. Rev. Christopher Goelzer officiated and entombment was in Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in Fond du Lac.
Relatives and friends called at the church on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services.
