Lyra M. Straub, 85, of the town of Ashford, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Kettle Moraine Gardens in Kewaskum.
She was born on January 26, 1929, in the town of LeRoy, the daughter of the late Louis and Evelyn (Ertl) Bauer, and on May 29, 1954, she was united in marriage to Neal Straub at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in LeRoy. Lyra and Neal made their home in the town of Ashford where they farmed for many years.
Lyra was a member of St. Kilian Catholic Church in St. Kilian, St. Mary's Sodality and the Washington County Homemakers. Lyra enjoyed sewing and was an accomplished seamstress.
Those Lyra leaves behind to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 60 years, Neal; two brothers, Roger Bauer of the town of Kewaskum and Donald (Anne) Bauer of Mayville; a sister, Ruth Ruhland of Oakfield; a brother-in-law, Charles (Dolores) Straub of Kewaskum; four sisters-in-law, Betty Bauer of LeRoy, Helen Bauer of Fond du Lac, Sr. Audrey Straub S.S.N.D. of Milwaukee and Isabelle Straub of Kewaskum, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Lyra was preceded in death by two brothers, Edgar and Felix Bauer; a sister-in-law, Elaine Bauer; four brothers-in-law, Clarence Ruhland, Fr. Carrol Straub, Claude (Ethel) Straub and Hugo Straub.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Lyra was held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at St. Kilian Catholic Church in St. Kilian. Father Neil Zinthefer officiated and burial followed in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends called at the church on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of Mass.
The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum was entrusted with Lyra's arrangements.
