Mabel "Maybelle" Gebhard, nee Seyfert, 90, of West Bend, passed away Monday, March 23, 2015 at her residence at Cedar Bay East.
She was born on November 24, 1924 to the late Leonard and Nora (nee Rosenthal) Seyfert in Washington County and was raised on the family farm in the town of Addison. As a young girl, Mabel always wondered if she would marry the little boy who would ride along with his father, Nic Gebhard, to the farm to buy cattle from her father. On December 13, 1943, Mabel's curiosity became reality as she married Raymond Gebhard in Sioux Falls, SD. Raymond passed away on April 6, 2008.
Mabel was an active member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in West Bend since 1944. Over the years she was very involved as a Sunday school teacher and Alter Guild member. She was a girls' pioneer leader and was part of the school library guild.
She is survived by her two nieces, Bonnie (Gino) Kaster of Orinda, CA and Hope (Joe) Fonte of Houston, TX; five nephews, Mark Brumm of River Falls, WI, Gary (Chuay) Gebhard of Cocoa, FL, Tom Gebhard of Titusville, FL, Mike Gebhard of Desert Hot Springs, CA, and Steve (Kim) Gebhard of Mayville, WI. She is further survived by other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Mabel was preceded in death by her step-mother, Fay Seyfert; daughter, Linda Schiemann; parents-in-law, Nic and Anna Gebhard; sisters-in-law, Marie Brumm, Loretta Bohn, and Anna Pfeifer; and a brother-in-law, George Gebhard.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 27 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, 809 S. 6th Ave., West Bend. Rev. Jeff Dorth will officiate and burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.
