Malinda A. Garbisch (nee Oppermann), 95, of the town of Scott, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at Plymouth Care Center in Plymouth.
She was born on September 30, 1913, in Fond du Lac County, the daughter of the late Henry and Ida (Bartelt) Oppermann, and on June 12, 1932, she was united in marriage to Raymond Garbisch at St. John Lutheran Church in New Fane. Raymond preceded Malinda in death on December 31, 1970.
Malinda was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Scott and the Ladies Evening Guild.
Malinda was a devoted wife, a loving mother and an adoring grandmother to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She loved to bake for her family and friends. Her specialties included apple kuchen, butterhorns and stollen. Some of her favorite pastimes were crocheting afghans and potholders, doing word search puzzles, bowling and bingo. She enjoyed attending worship services at Plymouth Care Center with Marcella Oppermann and other friends. Malinda will fondly be remembered for the butch haircuts she gave to her grandsons, her love of gardening and especially her love of growing flowers. She will be deeply missed by her family and by all who knew her.
Survivors include four children, Janet (Ivan) Kumrow and Charles Garbisch both of Random Lake, Joan (John) Schlicht of Winneconne and Joy (Gary) Neuenfeld of Random Lake; 18 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 14 step-great-grandchildren, ten step-great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Malinda was preceded in death by a brother, Henry (Verna) Oppermann; two sisters, Lucinda (Henry) Mess and Marie (Wilbur) Kleinke; a grandson, Joel Kumrow; two sons-in-law, Leroy Peterson and Karl Haack; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Garbisch; a brother-in-law, Marvin (Flossie) Garbisch; a sister-in-law, Frona (Raymond) Justman; a niece, Virginia Edgar; a nephew, Roger Garbisch and two step-grandsons, Mike and Mark Neuenfeld.
Funeral services for Malinda were held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, (1 1/2 miles straight south of Beechwood on Hwy A, then Hwy HH - or- from West Bend north on Hwy 144 to Hwy 28, left on Hwy 28 less than a mile and then right on Paradise Road at the church sign) in the town of Scott. Rev. Kurt Ziemann and Rev. Dr. Roy Peterson officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Relatives and friends called on Thursday at the church from noon until the time of services.
