Margaret F. Monroe

Margaret "Maggie" F. Monroe, nee Gessert, age 94, of West Bend, died peacefully with her son by her side, on Monday, September 17, 2012 at Cedar Bay West in the Town of West Bend.

She was born on April 30, 1918 in Indianapolis, IN, to the late Edmund and Anna (nee Stowasser) Gessert. At an early age Margaret's mother passed away and her father remarried Edith Gray who raised Margaret like a daughter. On January 30, 1943, Margaret was united in marriage to Phillip Monroe in Milwaukee. Phillip preceded her in death on June 9, 1999.

Margaret enjoyed a good long life. She was always on the move and spent many hours volunteering at the VA. She loved playing cards and spending time with her family. She was a former member and past president of the Bell Telephone American Legion Auxiliary Post # 427 and a former member of the Spring City Telephone Pioneers.

Margaret is survived by her two children, Martha Monroe of Cudahy and Mark (Bonnie) Monroe of Slinger; five grandchildren, Robert (Kim) Monroe, Heather (fiancAC., Brett) Monroe, Mark Monroe II, Matthew Monroe, and Jena Monroe; four great-grandchildren, Michael, Megan, Kaitlin, and Carsen; one great-grandchild to be, Skylar; a sister, Marion (Cuyler) Gunn; a brother, Edmund (Shirley) Gessert; and many other relatives and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip; her parents; her step-mother; and her sister-in law, Jane (Jack) Thomson.

Funeral services in remembrance of Margaret will be held on Saturday, September 22nd at 4:00 p.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 4860 Arthur Road, Slinger with Rev. Matthew Short officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial of Margaret's cremated remains will be in Valhalla Memorial Park in Milwaukee.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Luke Lutheran Church are greatly appreciated by the family.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Cedar Bay West and at Care Wisconsin as well as Rev. Matthew Short from St. Luke Lutheran Church for all the loving care and support that was given to Margaret and her family.
