Marie I. Kleinke, age 90, of West Bend, formerly of New Fane, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at the Samaritan Health Center in West Bend.
She was born on March 8, 1916 in the town of Auburn, the daughter of the late Henry and Ida (Bartelt) Oppermann, and on September 4, 1937, she was united in marriage to Wilbur Kleinke at St. John Lutheran Church in New Fane. The couple owned and operated Whitey’s Drive-In and a farm in the town of Auburn. Wilbur preceded Marie in death on March 3, 1998.
Marie was employed by Regal Ware, Inc. in Kewaskum for over 20 years and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in New Fane. In her retirement years, she was a nanny for many families.
Survivors include four children, Gerald (Jean) Kleinke of Saukville, Jim (Dianne) Kleinke of Kewaskum, John (Diane) Kleinke of Dundee and Welda (George) Simousek of Madison; a brother, Henry Oppermann of rural Campbellsport; a sister, Malinda Garbisch of Random Lake; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandsons, other relatives and friends.
Marie was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Dean Kleinke, Shawn Neitzel and Tracy Neitzel; a sister, Lucinda (Henry) Mess; a sister-in-law, Verna Oppermann and a brother-in-law, Raymond Garbisch.
Marie’s funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at St. John Lutheran Church, N665 Highway S, Kewaskum (New Fane). Rev. Mark Eckert officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Relatives and friends called on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum and on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
