Marie H. Thoma

September 16, 1919 — June 28, 2014

Marie H. Thoma, nee Barens, 94, of West Bend, found peace and entered eternal life on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at The Kathy Hospice.

She was born on September 16, 1919 in Barton to the late Henry and Mary (nee Koenings) Barens. She married Alfred Thoma on October 13, 1943 at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church, West Bend. Alfred preceded her in death on February 12, 1969.

Marie will be remembered for her warm heart and spunky sense of humor. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Sheepshead and Kings in the Corner. Marie spent many hours crocheting and knitting and she loved to share her handmade doilies, butterflies, and dishrags with others. Marie lived by the motto "Growing old isn't for wimps" and she kept that motto right up to the end. May she rest in peace with all of her family and friends that have gone before her.

She is survived by four children, John (Nancy) Thoma of Sun Lakes, AZ, James (Debbie) Thoma of Omro, Joseph (Margaret) Thoma of Oak Creek, and Julie (Gary) Jansen of West Bend; nine grandchildren, Michael (Kim) Thoma, Sandra (Matthew) McCarthy, Lisa (Marc) Ungerman, Andrea Thoma, Mark Thoma, Laura Thoma, Beth Thoma, Bradley Jansen, and Melissa Jansen (fiancAC. Martin Blair); seven great-grandchildren, Henry Thoma, Finn McCarthy, Erin McCarthy, Nolan McCarthy, Rowan Ungerman, Evelyn Ungerman, and Wyatt Ungerman; a special niece, Mary Roell of West Bend, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers, Elmer Barens and Leonard Barens, and a sister, Lorraine Hensler.

Visitation will be held at the Myrhum - Patten Funeral Home, 1315 W. Washington Street, West Bend, on Wednesday, July 2 from 4:00 p.m. until the closing of the casket prayers at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 7:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Church, 1610 Monroe St., West Bend, with Rev. Charles Wester and Rev. Nathan Reesman presiding. Burial will be in the old St. Mary's Cemetery (next to 1940 North Main Street) in West Bend on Thursday, July 3 at 10:00 a.m.

Memorials to St. Mary's School or St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Parish are appreciated.
