Marjorie J. Cox, (nee Burdick), age 83, of West Bend, was received into the hands of the Lord on Saturday, May 15, 2010 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on March 5, 1927 to the late Encil and Martha (nee Pehmoeller) Burdick in Milwaukee. At a young age, Marjorie moved with her family to Kaukauna where she was salutatorian of her graduating high school class in 1945. Following high school Marjorie attended college at the University of Wisconsin Madison earning a degree in Bacteriology from the school of Home Economics. While she was in college Marjorie met the love of her life, Lowell Cox, while on a dorm blind date exchange. They were united in marriage on November 5, 1949 at the Methodist Church in Kaukauna. Marjorie's faith was very important to her. She and her husband were long time members of Fifth Avenue United Methodist Church where she served on the counting team, was co-chair of the kitchen, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir for over 50 years. Marjorie enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels and was the store manager of Well Wishers, the gift shop at the former St. Joseph's Community Hospital. Marjorie also enjoyed flowers and gardening as well as cross stitching and traveling, but she loved nothing more than attending her grandchildren's sporting events and school concerts.
Marjorie is survived by her loving husband, Lowell of West Bend; her three children, Barb (Jerry) Prahl of Newburg, Nancy (Joel) Schoenbeck of West Bend, and Bill (Connie) Cox of Germantown; seven grandchildren, Heather and Ryan Prahl, Jessica and Tim Schoenbeck, and Ashley, Greg, and Tyler Cox; three great-grandchildren, Courtney Fischer, and Destiny and Brook Prahl; a brother-in-law Carl (Wilma) Witt; and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service in honor of Marjorie will be held on Thursday, May 20th at 6:30 pm at Fifth Ave. United Methodist Church (323 S. Fifth Ave. West Bend). Rev. Janis Best will officiate. Visitation will be on Thursday at the church from 3:30 pm until the time of service.
Memorials to Fifth Ave. United Methodist Church and the Alzheimer's Association would be greatly appreciated by the family.
