Marjorie B. Degnitz, 84, of the town of Farmington, passed away at her home on Thursday, March 19, 2009, with her family at her side.
She was born on August 16, 1924, in the town of Farmington, the daughter of the late Henry and Anatasia “Daisy” (Grieger) Laatsch, and on March 25, 1944, she was united in marriage to Merlin Degnitz at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in St. Michaels while Merlin was home on leave from the service.
The couple made their home on the family homestead and operated the dairy farm until 1977. In 1964, Marjorie and Merlin began a bus service business serving the area of the town of Farmington. In 1972, they began serving the Random Lake area, and from 1974 to 1997, they served the Ozaukee County area. Marjorie was the manager of Degnitz Bus Service serving the North Ozaukee School District and was also a bus driver.
Marjorie was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in St. Michaels, a member of the Happy Hearts Homemakers and was a census taker in the town of Farmington for many years. She enjoyed gardening and canning produce from her garden and one of her favorite pastimes was crocheting. Marjorie crocheted many Christmas angels as gifts for her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by her husband, her family and by all who knew her.
Survivors include her loving husband of 65 years, Merlin; four children, Mary Carol (Robert) Shoemaker of Fredonia, Carl H. (Judy) Degnitz of Fredonia, Beverly J. Zimdars and Jane (Vincent) Meyer both of Kewaskum; a sister, Adeline Schoofs of the town of Kewaskum; two sisters-in-law, Bernice (Willard) Hammen of Random Lake and Shirley (Raymond) Lubbert of Hartford; four brothers-in-law, Roger (Rosalyn) Degnitz of Fredonia, Donald (Anita) Degnitz of Lisle, Illinois, Gerald Klumb and Allen (Mary) Puestow both of West Bend, ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Theodore Schoofs and two sisters-in-law, Betty Klumb and Janet Puestow.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Marjorie was held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2009, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 8881 Forestview Road, Kewaskum (St. Michaels). Father Edwin Kornath officiated and burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Little Kohler.
Relatives and friends called at the church on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of Mass.
