Mark A. Mey, age 73, of West Bend, passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at St. Joseph's Hospital in the town of Polk, due to complications of MDS.
Mark was born on April 7, 1937 in the family home in Newburg to the late Alfred and Alice (nee Gerlach) Mey. He attended West Bend High School and graduated in the class of 1955. Following high school, Mark attended Valparaiso University, and eventually also attended the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee. After college, Mark enlisted in the Wisconsin National Guard and was stationed in West Bend and Ft. Lewis, Washington. On August 9, 1969, Mark was united in marriage to the love of his life LaVonne Nagel in Belle Plaine, MN.
Mark enjoyed a long career in sales and worked with many companies over the years including Northwestern Publishing House, Mallard Coach Inc, Hentzen Chemical Coating, and Meis Products. He was a long time member of Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church in West Bend. His service to the church included various lay leadership positions and he enjoyed singing in the church choir. In his free time, Mark enjoyed traveling, reading, and gardening.
Mark is survived by his wife, LaVonne; his sister, Mary (Rev. Thomas) Zarling of Sterling, VA; his mother-in-law, Bernice Nagel of Belle Plaine, MN; his sister-in-law, Louise Nagel of Greenfield; his niece, Elisabeth (Rev. Erich) Schaser of Greenville; and his nephews, Paul (Jessica) Zarling of West Bend, David (Emily) Zarling of Jackson, and Captain Jonathan (Cindy) Zarling of Twentynine Palms, CA. He is further survived by 13 great nieces and nephews; and many other dear relatives and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Alice Mey; his infant brother, James Donald Mey; and his father-in-law, Louis Nagel.
A funeral service in honor of Mark will be held on Tuesday, February 15th at 6:00 pm at Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church (777 Indiana Ave. West Bend, WI 53095). Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 3:00 pm until the time of service at 6:00 pm. Entombment will be in Washington County Memorial Park on Wednesday at 10:00 am.
Memorials to the Organ Fund at Good Shepherd Ev. Lutheran Church would be greatly appreciated by the family.
