Martin A. "Marty" Knoll, age 68, of West Bend, was unexpectedly called home to be with his Lord, Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Milwaukee.
He was born on April 2, 1946 in Frankenmuth/Vassar, MI to the late Arthur and Lydia (nee Weiss) Knoll. After high school Marty earned his BA Degree at Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, IL.
On June 21, 1969 Marty was united in marriage to Lois Christian at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mayville. They lived in several areas where Marty taught, until moving to West Bend in 1976. Marty taught elementary school at St. John's until his retirement in 2003. His influence was felt by thousands of students mentored in Minnesota, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Many remember his coaching, refereeing, and as a leader of games.
He was an active member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, the church choir, and men's Bible study. He was also an active member of the West Bend Noon Kiwanis Club, Adopt-a-Plot, and Roots & Branches (West Bend Beautification Committee). You could always find him landscaping throughout West Bend, while humming. He will fondly be remembered for being a man of character, integrity, humble spirit, and a selfless serving heart throughout the community. Other interests include hunting, fishing, golfing, putting puzzles together, and a love for travel. Marty cherished and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Caleb & Kelsi. He was a true positive example to young and old.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; a son, John (Tami) Knoll of West Bend; two grandchildren, Caleb and Kelsi Knoll; two sisters, Lorine Petzold of Vassar, MI, and Marion Mossner of Frankenmuth, MI; his twin brother, Edwin (Susan) Knoll of Frankenmuth/ Vassar, MI; other relatives and many friends.
Marty was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Lydia; along with two brothers-in-law, Earl Mossner, and Robert Petzold.
Funeral services in remembrance of Marty will be held on Saturday January 3rd at 11:30 am at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church (809 S. 6th Ave.) West Bend. Rev. David Kellerman will officiate. Visitation will be Friday at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home (1315 W. Washington St.) West Bend, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, and on Saturday at the church from 10:00 am until the time of service. Burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park.
