Marvel Lou Wiedmeyer (nee Fick), age 76, was born to Benjamin and Lucille (nee Graf) Fick on August 5, 1931 in West Bend, and returned to our Lord on November 6, 2007 at her residence after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.
Marvel graduated from West Bend High School in the class of 1949, and married the late John A. Wiedmeyer. She worked as a telephone operator in West Bend, as John's bookkeeper, and for many years as a dietary aide at the Lakeland nursing facility in Walworth County. After retiring from Lakeland she worked several retail positions, including K-Mart, and at both Pick 'n Save locations in West Bend.
Marvel was skilled in many areas. She was an exceptionally gifted needle-craft artist, and fabricated hundreds of exquisitely detailed items, from rugs and afghans, to sweaters and wall hangings. She loved to travel, and, with her beloved daughter Jeri, visited Hawaii, Australia and multiple European countries. She was an expert cook and enjoyed preparing delicacies of all kinds. Marvel loved many types of music and performed with several groups, including the "Sweet Adelines" and the "Lakeview Chorale" of Madison. She also loved to garden at her cottage on Silver Lake, where she spent every spare moment of her adult life.
Marvel is survived by four daughters, Jerilou Ann Wiedmeyer, MD of West Bend, Bonnie Sue (James) Rediske of Moon Township, PA, Marjorie Lynn Krause of Janesville, and Dawn Mary (Russell) Gotha of Oswego, IL; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Michelle, Timothy, Stacy, Samantha, and Melanie; two great-grandsons, Devon and Logan; along with her beloved and faithful golden retriever "Murphy". She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Lou Fick, as well as the true love of her life "Bud" Avery.
Funeral services to remember Marvel will be held on Sunday November 11th at 7:00 pm at the Myrhum ~ Patten Funeral Home, West Bend. Rev. David Schoob of Trinity Lutheran Church will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday at the funeral home from 4:00 pm until the time of service. Burial will be in Washington County Memorial Park on Monday at 11:00 am. Memorials to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the Washington County Humane Society, or the Wildlife Federation are appreciated by the family.
