Marvin C. Burg, formerly of Colgate, passed away unexpectedly in his home on Monday, October 25, 2010.
Marv was born in Hartford on March 26, 1951 to the late John and Lorraine (nee Neu) Burg, number 12 of 19 children. Marv was a beloved brother and leaves behind seventeen brothers and sisters: Robert (Louise) Burg, Janet (John) Chipman, Beatrice Gmeiner, Bernice (Larry) Cote', Wayne Burg, William (Christine) Burg, James (Patricia) Burg, Gerald (Laurie) Burg, Michael (Mary) Burg, Mary (Randall) Fries, Raymond (Janice) Burg, Kenneth Burg, Kathleen Burg, Jean (Richard) Wagner, Jane Whetzel, Richard (Linda Renard) Burg and Karin Burg. He also leaves behind 41 nieces and nephews, 38 great-nieces and great-nephews, 1 great- great niece, cousins, and other extended relatives and friends.
Marv was preceded in death by his father, John N. Burg in 1990 and his mother, Lorraine (Neu) Burg in 2006, and a brother, Donald Burg in 1964.
Marv attended St. Boniface Catholic School and then obtained his GED. Immediately thereafter, Marv served in the Air Force primarily as a bus driver in Guam for four years after the Vietnam war, and returned to Wisconsin to begin his primary occupation as a carpenter. He was an extremely skilled woodworker and eventually began his own business in the carpentry business, from which he recently retired except for refurbishing his farm house in St. Lawrence.
Marv loved the outdoors, and his hobbies and interests included fishing, biking, gardening, and, in his younger years, sports of all kinds. A quiet, simple man of few words, Marv was beloved by his large family, for whom he was always available to assist with a building or carpentry job or project whenever he was needed. He will be sorely missed.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 29, 2010, at 11:00 am at Peace United Church of Christ, 343 First Street, Kewaskum, with Pastor Eric Kirkegaard officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of services. Interment with military honors will be at St. Boniface Church Cemetery in Germantown immediately following the funeral service.
