Marvin C. Kleinke, 92, of Kewaskum, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2006 at the Samaritan Health Center in West Bend.
He was born on January 24, 1914, in Shawano, the son of the late William and Amanda (Brockhaus Baker) Kleinke, and on October 27, 1945, he was united in marriage to Dolores Marie Caroline Heberer at St. John Lutheran Church in New Fane.
Marvin proudly served his country in the U. S. Army Airforce during World War II, earning several medals of honor including the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon, Silver Battle Star, four Overseas Service Bars and Bronze Battle Star. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post 384 Kewaskum, the Kewaskum Lion’s Club and the Kewaskum Historical Society. Marvin was also an active member of St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kewaskum where he served as an Elder and Financial Secretary for many years.
After his retirement from A.O. Smith Company in Milwaukee, Marvin was employed by the Kewaskum School District as a janitor. He was a valued volunteer in Kewaskum from Meals on Wheels, to one of his favorite events, the annual Easter egg hunt. If anyone needed a hand with anything, Marvin was there to help. He will be deeply missed by his wife, his family and by all who knew him.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Dolores; eight children, Charles (Susan) Kleinke and Earl (Marie) Kleinke both of Kewaskum, Cliff (Alice) Kleinke of Eau Claire, Edmond (Nancy) Kleinke of West Bend, Yvonne (Bruce) Schumacher of St. Paul, Minnesota, Annette (Dave) Wienke of Milwaukee, Suzette (Val) Fischer of Dayton, Ohio and Claudette (Jim) Guell of Waucousta; a sister, Gladys Van den Berg of Key Biscayne, Florida; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Kleinke of Illinois and LaVerne Kleinke of West Bend; 23 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Frederick “Fritz”, Wilbur (Marie) and Alphaeus Kleinke.
A funeral service for Marvin was held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 13, 2006 at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1417 Parkview Drive, Kewaskum. Rev. Edwin Fredrich officiated and burial with military graveside rites performed by members of the Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post 384 Kewaskum followed in Lutheran Memorial Park in Kewaskum.
Relatives and friends called on Friday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.
