Mary Garriety, 97, of Lomira, formerly of Brownsville (Nasbro), passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at Hope and Health Rehabilitation Center in Lomira.
She was born on July 11, 1914, in Vicenza, Italy, the daughter of the late Joseph and Corona (Valle) Lavarda. Mary came to the United States when she was six years old. On January 19, 1935, she was united in marriage to Edgar “Curly” Garriety at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Le Roy. Edgar preceded Mary in death on November 30, 1994.
Mary was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lomira and the Christian Mothers. She enjoyed crocheting, especially afghans, a handmade gift she gave to each of her children and grandchildren. Mary will fondly be remembered for all the Italian dishes she cooked.
Those Mary leaves behind to cherish her memory include three children, Edward (Liz) Garriety, Janet Falk and Kathleen (Joel) Luedtke all of Lomira; 11 grandchildren, Tina (Mark) Mueller, Pat (Kris) Garriety, Mike (Linda) Garriety, Tim (Angie) Garriety, Darcie (Rick) Heberer, Kevin (Cheri) Falk, Craig (Bridget) Falk, Joelene (Tony) Batzler, Brad (Sarah) Luedtke, Nick (Tracy) Luedtke and Luke (KellyJo) Luedtke; a sister, Cyrena Sterr of Knowles; a sister-in-law, Olga Lavarda of Coleman, 35 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandsons, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was preceded in death by two brothers, Geno (Gladys) and John Lavarda; a brother-in-law, Milton “Mickey” Sterr; a son-in-law, Richard Falk and a granddaughter, Tracy Falk Flitter.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mary was held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lomira. Father Dennis Budka officiated and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Relatives and friends called on Wednesday at the church from noon until the time of Mass.
The Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home in Lomira was entrusted with Mary’s arrangements.
Mary’s family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Hope Health and Rehabilitation Center for the six years of attentive compassionate care given to Mary and Agnesian Hospice Hope for the tender care provided to Mary recently.
