Mary Teresa Voigt (nee Drinan), age 84, of West Bend, WI, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at the Hartford Health Care Center in Hartford, WI.
Teresa was born on July 19, 1927 in Charlestown (Boston), MA to the late Patrick and Hannah Drinan who were first generation immigrants from County Cork, Ireland. On October 6, 1956 Teresa was united in marriage to Donald Alvin Voigt, of Milwaukee, at St. Cecilia's Church in Boston, MA. Donald passed away in March of 1995.
Prior to her marriage, Teresa worked for the Boston Chamber of Commerce as a book keeper. Her husband Don was a machinist in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1967. Together they lived most of their married life in Grandwood Park, a small community west of Gurnee, IL.
Teresa was active in the community. She served on the Grandwood Park, Park District Board as treasurer and was an election judge for many years. She enjoyed bingo, crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting, reading, symphony music and parades.
Teresa was the loving mother of Charles (Eileen) Voigt of West Bend, WI; and the proud grandmother of Rebecca, Matthew, Rachel, and Daniel Voigt. She is further survived by her sister, Ann Collier of Rockport, MA; her sisters-in-law, Susan (John) Voigt Knebel Bauer of Port Washington, WI and Diane (Maynard Thorsen) Voigt of Waukesha, WI; nieces; nephews; great nieces; great nephews; and her dear friend, Helen Cullinan of Arlington, VA.
Teresa was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Paul Voigt of Waukesha, WI.
A Mass of Christian Burial in honor of Teresa will be held on Friday, July 20th at 11:00 am at Holy Angels Catholic Church (138 N. 8th Ave. West Bend, WI). Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 9:00 am until the time of mass. Burial will be in Ascension Cemetery (1920 Buckley Rd. Libertyville, IL) on Friday at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kettle Moraine Symphony would be appreciated.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dawn Herdt, Gentiva Hospice, and the Hartford Health Care Center for their loving care. They would also like to thank the West Bend Community Memorial Library Outreach Librarian who kept Teresa supplied with her favorite authors in large print.
