Mary J. Wachs, (nee Lhotka), age 78, of West Bend, passed away Sunday, October 12, 2008 at her home.
She was born July 23, 1930, in West Bend to the late Louis and Anna (nee Weber) Lhotka. Mary attended West Bend High School and graduated in 1948. Upon her graduation, Mary had the honor of receiving the first annual B.C. Ziegler Scholarship.
On September 30, 1950, she was united in marriage to Carl Wachs in West Bend. Mary was the private secretary to the Assistant Superintendent of West Bend Schools from 1948 until her retirement in 1994. Mary loved spending time with her family, and always made them her first priority. She was very involved in 4H, she loved nature, was a life long gardener known for her beautiful flowers.
Mary is survived by her husband, Carl of West Bend; three children, Gary (Beth) Wachs, Barbara (Mark) Hampton, and Linda Campbell, all of West Bend; six grandchildren, Adam (Kate) Wachs, Samantha (Jason)Tran, Jessica Campbell, Jeremy (Sarah) Wachs, Eric Hampton and Natalie Campbell; one great-grandchild, Christian Wachs; her brother, Joseph Lhotka of Wausaukee, a special friend, Bob Neumann of West Bend; and many other dear relatives and close friends.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ralph Campbell; a brother-in-law; Harley (Margaret) Wachs; and a sister-in-law, Doris Lhotka.
Funeral services in remembrance of Mary will be held on Wednesday, October 15, at 7:00 p.m. at Peace United Church of Christ (343 First St. in Kewaskum), with Rev. Eric Kirkegaard officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday at the church from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Cremation will follow at Myrhum - Patten Funeral & Cremation Service and burial of her cremated remains will take place on Thursday, October 16th at 10:00a.m. in Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend.
