Staff Sergeant Matthew M. Smolinski, 25, of Campbellsport, passed away on Monday, July 30, 2012, from injuries received in a motorcycle accident.
He was born on November 28, 1986, in West Bend, the son of Michael and Brenda Smolinski and he was a 2005 graduate of Kewaskum High School.
Matthew enlisted in the U. S. Army in 2005. He was a proud and honorable member of the military serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Matthew was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Scott.
Matthew loved the outdoors and enjoyed the Milwaukee Brewers and Green Bay Packers, but most importantly he treasured his family and friends. Matthew will be deeply missed by his family, fellow Soldiers and by all who knew him.
Those Matthew leaves behind to cherish his memory include his father, Michael of Lomira; his sister, Amanda Smolinski of Raeford, North Carolina; his brother, Jonathan Jaecks of Genoa City; his maternal grandmother, Sandra Harter of Campbellsport; his paternal grandmother, Diane Smolinski of Germantown; three aunts, Kristine (Joel) Carberry of Lakeville, Minnesota, Marcie (Darryl) Haack of Campbellsport and Christa (Andy) Thompson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; his cousins, Brandon Carberry, Shannon Carberry, Brittney Carberry, Victoria Drehmel, Benjamin Haack, Harrison Haack and Joshua Thompson, other relatives, fellow Soldiers and many friends.
Matthew was preceded in death by his mother, Brenda; his uncle, Jeffery Harter; his maternal grandfather, Kenneth Harter and his paternal grandfather, Michael Smolinski.
Funeral services for Matthew were held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2012, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Scott with Rev. Kurt Ziemann officiating. Burial, with military honor rites, followed the service in the church cemetery.
Relatives and friends called at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until noon and again from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.
The Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum was entrusted with Matthew’s arrangements.
