Melvin L. Nickel, age 81, a devoted servant of God, was called to his eternal home on August 10, 2010 in Apache Junction, AZ.
He was born on the family farm in the Town of Wayne on March 9, 1929 to the late Robert and Leonora (nee Pamperin) Nickel. Melvin was baptized and became a child of God on March 11, 1929.
Melvin was united in marriage to Betty Sterr on September 3, 1950 at St. Luke's Ev. Lutheran Church in Knowles, WI.
He farmed for many years and later worked in livestock feed sales. In 1988 he moved to Arizona for health reasons.
He is survived by Betty Nickel, West Bend; seven children, Carol (Dennis) Moehr of Hartford, Laurie (Mark) Janke of Allenton, Randy (Terri) Nickel of Fond du Lac, Nancy (friend Barry Wolfe) Luther of Morgantown, West Virginia, Penny (Mark) Bamke of Slinger, Bonnie (John) Scott of Campbellsport, and Bruce (Darlene) Nickel of West Bend; grandchildren, Cindi Hetzer, Julie Wilkinson, Andy Raasch, Ryan, Shelly, and Andrea Janke, Valerie Bodden, Angela Oaks, Stacy Appell, Jessica Merriman, Collin and Ethan Bamke, Kellsie Scott, Abigale and Natalie Nickel; along with 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marcella Christian of Mayville, and Arlene (Marvin) Rusch of Jackson; a brother Roland Nickel of Theresa; three sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Larry; a sister, Evelyn Christian; three sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.
In honor of Melvin's wishes a private memorial service will be held for the family. Pastor Steve Bode and Joshua Bodden will officiate.
Memorials to Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Allenton, WI are appreciated by the family.
