Mildred E. “Milly” Nichols, 93, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, at Hope Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lomira.
She was born on September 7, 1916, in Fond du Lac, the daughter of the late Raymond and Anna (Halle) Mayhew, and on October 14, 1933, she was united in marriage to Lester Nichols at South Byron Methodist Church in South Byron. The couple farmed in the Lomira area until their retirement in 1972 when they moved and made their home in Mesa, Arizona. Her husband preceded her in death on January 27, 1986.
Milly was an active member of South Byron Methodist Church where she was a member of the Women’s Society of Christian Service. She was also a member of Kum Dubble Klub and a charter member of Borderline Homemakers. In Mesa, she was a member of Velda Rose United Methodist Church.
Milly will fondly be remembered for the enjoyment she received from gardening, crocheting, knitting, cooking, baking, playing cards and dominoes. She will be deeply missed by her family and by all who knew her.
Those Milly leaves behind to cherish her memory include two daughters, Annette (Francis) Michels and Debbie (Bruce) Bintzler both of Lomira; a daughter-in-law, Randallin Nichols of Ripon; two sisters, Lovon Seyfert of Fond du Lac and Joan (Buzz) Boehme of Johnson Creek; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Mayhew of Fond du Lac and Veneta Marks of Menomonee Falls; nine grandchildren, Daniel (Brenda) Michels, Dennis (Karyn) Michels, Brenda (Bill) Caplice, Jenifer (Tim) Jandre, Amanda (Shawn) Ditter, Melissa Nichols, Cherie (Shawn) McFarlane, James Nichols and Holly Nichols; 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Milly was preceded in death by a son, Roger Nichols; three sisters, Opal Mayhew, Blanche Willie and Aretia Willis; a brother, Willard Mayhew, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Funeral services for Milly were held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 29, 2010, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 300 Church Street in Lomira. Rev. Kerry Wilson officiated and burial was at 9:00 a.m. on Monday in Rienzi Cemetery in Fond du Lac.
Relatives and friends called at the church on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services.
