Milton A. Eisentraut, 99, of Kewaskum, formerly of Fredonia, passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at Kettle Moraine Gardens in Kewaskum.
He was born on March 30, 1910, in Kewaskum, the son of the late Theodore and Ella (Aurig) Eisentraut, and at the age five, his family moved to Fredonia in Ozaukee County. Milton attended a one-room schoolhouse and graduated from eighth grade. He started working part-time at the Fredonia Canning Company and Neuens Lumber Company in Fredonia.
On June 4, 1932, he was united in marriage to Caroline Backhaus at St. Lucas parsonage in Kewaskum and became a member of St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church in 1933. His beloved wife preceded him in death on October 21, 2008.
Milton became a full time employee at Neuens Lumber Company as a truck driver in 1933, and later he became yard manager. He was employed by Neuens for 42 years, retiring in 1975. After retiring, he worked part-time at Watry’s, Inc. for ten years, and in 1986, Milton and Caroline moved to West Bend.
Milton joined the Fredonia Fire Department in 1931 as chief engineer. He became chief in 1942 and held that position for ten years. Milton was an active and honorary member of the department from then on. He also served as trustee for the Village Board of Fredonia for nearly ten years.
Milton will fondly be remembered for the hobbies he enjoyed which were fishing, bowling, traveling, woodworking and handyman work.
Those Milton leaves behind to cherish his memory include a sister, Mildred Wilkens of West Bend; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Backhaus Moe of Kewaskum, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Milton were held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2009, at St. Lucas Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1417 Parkview Drive in Kewaskum. Rev. Troy Swenson officiated and burial followed in Lutheran Memorial Park in Kewaskum.
Relatives and friends called on Friday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. An honorary walk through by fire departments was at 2:30 p.m. at the church.
