West Bend

Muriel Arnelda Neerhof Storm passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at New Perspectives Senior Living in West Bend, Wisconsin.

Muriel was born on May 24, 1929, in Waldo, Wisconsin to Jennie Hoftiezer-Neerhof and Albert Neerhof and grew up on the family farm. She graduated as valedictorian from Waldo High School in 1947 and then attended UW-Stevens Point, where she was president of the senior class, graduating in 1951 with a degree in education. On December 28, 1954, she married fellow UW-SP grad, Ralph Arnold Storm. They taught school and lived in several towns in northern Wisconsin, finally settling in Eau Claire.

Muriel and Ralph had five children, and Muriel was a busy mom. Her baking was so good that none of her kids ever developed a taste for Pop Tarts, as her cinnamon rolls were much better. She was an excellent pianist and played accompaniment when her offspring performed in band and orchestra competitions. Muriel enjoyed the role of Cub Scout den mother, somehow keeping eight little boys busy and not destroying the house. The Storms enjoyed traveling around the US and Canada, the most memorable adventure being a month-long camping trip to California with five young children in a station wagon and a big blue tent. Muriel worked until retirement as church secretary at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. She and Ralph continued their travel hobby as Ralph was active in his WWII veteran’s organization and they traveled to as many of the annual conferences around the US as they could, often in their camper. They also made three trips to Europe, visiting places where Ralph had been in 1944-45. Muriel impressed her adult kids with her ease in navigating the London Underground tube system.

Muriel was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Henry Neerhof, Edward Neerhof and Ralph Neerhof; and her husband, Ralph Storm.

She is survived by her five children, Jennifer Storm Nelson of Raleigh, NC, Heidi Storm of Newcastle, CA, Dean Storm of Brimson, MN, Brad Storm (Cindy Kohli) of Grafton, WI, and Cyndy Storm of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Samantha Nelson and Colby Nelson of Raleigh, NC; sister-in-law Alma Neerhof of Hingham, WI; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends, grand dogs, grand cats and two grand horses.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

The family would like to thank the staff at Dove South Healthcare in Eau Claire, the staff at Betty's Harbor Memory Care at New Perspectives in West Bend, Lily Medical Group and Lily Hospice.
