Naomi Lorraine McGovern, age 93, of Cedar Ridge in West Bend, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Naomi was born on June 30, 1916 to the late William & Elsie Graham in Chicago, IL. She attended school in Chicago and graduated from Metropolitan Business School in Chicago. Naomi married John L. McGovern of Oconto, WI on June 23, 1942 in Augusta, Georgia, where he was enlisted in the Army. They resided in various locations due to Army relocations. Eventually they returned to Chicago, IL and later moved to Fond du Lac, WI in 1966. Naomi was employed by Fond du Lac County Social Services as a Case Aide from 1967 until her retirement in 1981. John & Naomi relocated to Sierra Vista, AZ in 1988 and, finally moved back in West Bend in 1994. Naomi is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Sandberg on Fond du Lac; two granddaughters, Kirstin (Barry) Telfer of Appleton and Alyssa (Tim) Foster of Campbellsport; two great-grandsons Jens Telfer of Appleton and Sam Foster of Campbellsport; and two great-granddaughters, Sofia Telfer of Appleton and Annika Foster of Campbellsport. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Naomi was preceded in death by her husband, John L. McGovern, son-in-law, Stephen Sandberg and her brother, Wilson B. Graham.
A memorial service in celebration of Naomi's life will be held on Monday, January 11 at 5:30 pm at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home in West Bend. Visitation will be on Monday from 3:00pm until the time of service. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Fond du Lac.
