Nicholas "Nic" Haug

September 7, 1989 — August 14, 2024

Nicholas Francis “Nic” Haug, age 34 years, of West Bend was unexpectedly called home to be with the Lord on August 14th, 2024.

Nic was born on September 7th, 1989, in West Bend, Wisconsin to Edward and Janice Haug (née Laufer). The youngest of three, he joined his brother Russell and his sister Holly in the closely knit family. He was the “baby” but there were no favorites or rivalries among the siblings - we all felt loved and supported unconditionally by our parents from childhood on to adulthood. Nic attended Saint Frances Cabrini Elementary and West Bend East High School, graduating in 2007. It was in high school where Nic met his best friend and love of his life, Kate Hill. They were inseparable from that point on, attending the University of Wisconsin-Platteville together and eventually uniting in marriage on July 2nd, 2016, in a beautiful outdoor ceremony in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Nic and Kate both found their career callings in the human resources field. A people-person to his core, Nic brought vibrancy and camaraderie to every company he worked for during his career, most recently at SynergyOps / Regal Ware. He made friends so effortlessly wherever we went. A job with Goodyear Tire took the couple to Topeka, Kansas for a time, before they returned to this area and began to put down roots close to family. On October 14th, 2019, Nic and Kate welcomed their daughter Mackenzie to the world. Mackenzie embodies the very best of her parents; her kindness, intelligence, sense of humor, and love of animals are all apparent to anyone who meets her. Anyone reading this, whether you knew Nic or not, can understand the hurt of losing a loved one too soon. All we can do is trust in God and support Kate and Mackenzie with our love and intentions.

People are always so much more than dates separated by a dash. Everyone who passes on leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of those who loved them. It’s true that those memories summon tears, but many are accompanied by smiles as we remember how special they were to us all. Many who knew Nic will remember his love of family, friends, his community, Door County vacations, golfing (goodness, did he ever love to golf!), and of course a good Bloody Mary. There’s no doubt that countless numbers of you who knew Nic will remember many things he loved that weren’t mentioned in the previous line, their omission no less important to you or Nic. He loved life and all that came with it, and the outpouring of love his family has received since his passing only confirms how fiercely he lived, loved, and was loved in return.

Those Nic leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife Kate, their daughter Mackenzie, his loving parents Edward and Janice, his siblings Russell and Holly, his siblings-in-law Laura Hill and Alex (Isabelle) Kestrel (and Alex and Isabelle’s child Cameron), and a household full of beloved pets (Dempsey, Pax, Frankie, and Zusie). He is further survived by his best friend Ryan Suits (an honorary Haug) and many other close friends and relatives.

In addition to his grandparents Carroll and Rosemary Haug (née Comfort) and Francis “Barney” and Muriel Laufer (née Moths), Nic was preceded in death by his uncle Phillip Haug, his aunt Lori Schaus (née Laufer), and his aunt Ginger Schultz (née Haug). Sadly, Nic’s beloved father-in-law Alex Hill passed away just days after Nic’s passing as well. We are devastated but also comforted knowing that Nic and Alex are with each other in Heaven and watching over us with love, somehow giving us the strength to carry on here on Earth.

VISITATION/SERVICE:  Nic’s family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, August 24th, 2024, from 9:30am until 12:45pm at Saint Frances Cabrini Catholic Church (1025 S 7th Avenue, West Bend WI 53095).
