Noreen F. "Sis" Merkel, 84, of the town of Trenton, passed away on Friday, July 2, 2010, at Cedar Lake Health Care Center in the town of West Bend.
She was born on November 5, 1925, in Sheboygan Falls, the daughter of the late Elsworth and Leeola (Heidenrieter) Long, and on November 26, 1943, she was united in marriage to Russell Merkel in Cascade. Her husband preceded her in death on January 12, 2002.
During her working years, Noreen was employed as a nursing assistant, and she was a Lioness member. Noreen will be fondly remembered as a devoted, loving mother, a hard-worker and an avid golfer. She will be deeply missed by her family and by all who knew her.
Those Noreen leaves behind to cherish her memory include eight children, Lee (Jeanie) Merkel of West Bend, Bob Merkel of the town of Trenton, Kay (Don E.) Shaffer of Lomira, Vicki (Ron) Knaak of Waterford, Jon ”Fritz” (Sue) Merkel of East Troy, Jody (Paula) Merkel, Jim (Lindy) Merkel and Rich (Sue) Merkel all of West Bend; 16 grandchildren, Laura (Bo), Tom (Debbie), Randy (Ann), Kerri (Andy), Kandi (Chris), Jennifer (Brad), Bobbi Jo (Dann), Jason (Becka), Jeremy (Savannah), Brad (Casey), Nicole (Josh), Megan, Chris (Stephanie), Dustin, Brian and Katie; 20 great-grandchildren, Maija, Danielle, Riley, Jordon, Curtis, Faith, Michael, Abby, Morgan, Gabbi, Riley, Lilly, Cameron, Jordon, Jayda, Jackson, Max, Zach, Colton and Ryann; four brothers, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Noreen was preceded in death by a brother.
Funeral services for Noreen were held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2010, at the Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum and entombment was on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield.
Relatives and friends called on Thursday at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services.
