Norman E. Soyk

Norman E. Soyk, 83, of West Bend, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Cedar Lake Health and Rehabilitation Center, West Bend.

He was born on November 15, 1930 in Osceola, WI to the late Albert and Louise (nee Viestadt) Soyk. He was united in marriage to Eugenia Rohlinger on October 10, 1959 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Allenton. Eugenia passed away on June 9, 2008.

Norm served in the U.S. Army from April 1951 to April 1953. He was employed at the Amity Leather Company in West Bend for 44 years. After retiring from Amity, Norm drove cars for the Bob Fish auto dealership for 4 years and then was a delivery driver for Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts for 9 years.

He enjoyed bowling and softball, watching the Cubs and Sunday drives. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren's activities.

He is survived by a son, Gary (Jean) Soyk of West Bend; two grandchildren, Amber and Trevor Soyk; a sister, Myrtle Hassinger of Slinger; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eugenia; two sisters, Pearl Backaus and Alice Arndt; four brothers, Melvin "Red" (Esther) Soyk, Almon "Windy" (Loraine) Soyk, Orville (Lillian) Soyk, and Lyle "Carrots" Soyk; and five brothers-in-law, Otto Fick, Carl Backhaus, Walter Hassinger, Richard Schubert , Herman Arndt.

A funeral service in remembrance of Norman will be held on Saturday, June 7 at 12:00 Noon at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 6869 Wildwood Road, West Bend. Rev. Darren Knoll will officiate and burial with military honors will follow at Washington County Memorial Park, West Bend. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church Building Fund or Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School would be appreciated.

The family expresses a special thank you to Norman's doctors, nurses and caregivers for their dedicated care and attention.
