Quentin I. Wilcox, 86, of West Bend, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Autumn Oaks in Slinger.
He was born on July 28, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Ira and Kathrine (nee Steffan) Wilcox. He graduated from high school in Chicago in 1938. He then attended the Illinois Institute of Technology, graduating in 1942 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering.
Quentin married Bonnie Conelly on November 6, 1943. Bonnie preceded him in death on July 19, 1984.
Quentin began working for the Buick Motor Division of GMC in Melrose Park, Illinois where he designed aircraft engines to be used in WWII. He then moved to Milwaukee to work at Evinrude designing outboard motors. In 1950 he moved to Eau Claire and worked for Martin Outboard Motors until moving to Hartford in 1954. He was employed at the Chrysler Corp. Marine Division in Hartford for 25 years, retiring in 1979.
He moved to Silver Lake in West Bend in 1961. Quentin loved the lake and anything to do with the outdoors. His passions were outboard motors and boating. He was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the Hartford Christian Science Church, and the Silver Lake Yacht Club.
He is survived by a son, Craig Wilcox of the town of Erin; a daughter-in-law; Christine Wilcox of West Bend; a grandson, Grant Wilcox of West Bend; a step-grandson, Jason Schreiber of Elm Grove; a step-granddaughter, Joelle (Wally) Mackey of Richfield; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marla Petersohn, and a son-in-law Gernot "Jim" Petersohn.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 25 at 3:00 p.m. at the Myrhum - Patten Funeral Home in West Bend. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service.
Memorials to the American Diabetes Association or a charity of the donor's choice are appreciated.
