Raymond P. Breit

Raymond P. Breit, 89, of Knowles, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at his home with his family at his side.


He was born on August 14, 1921, in Lomira, the son of the late Peter and Elisabeth (Ries) Breit, and on October 19, 1963, Raymond was united in marriage to JoAnn “Tillie” Firari at Holy Family Catholic Church in Reeseville. Raymond was preceded in death by his wife on March 23, 2011.


Raymond was employed by Maysteel and later by Gleason Reel for 20 years. He was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church in LeRoy and a long-time member of the Knowles Fire Department.


Raymond will fondly be remembered for the enjoyment he received gathering and picking out hickory nuts, going for rides, working in his garage and building birdhouses and doing other woodworking projects. He always planted and tended a huge garden and was a passionate fisherman. Raymond will be deeply missed by his family and by all who knew him.


Those Raymond leaves behind to cherish his memory include two daughters, Carol Petri and Vicki (Craig) Loomans both of Lomira; a sister, Cecelia Reen; a brother, Ralph Breit of Fond du Lac; four grandchildren, Dennis (Jessica) Petri Jr., Elizabeth Petri, Kurtis Petri and Nicholas (Jessica) Loomans; seven great-grandchildren, Shyann, Breann, Roxann and Dennis III Petri, Taitum Schickert, Brandon and Natalie Loomans, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


In addition to his wife and parents, Raymond was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dennis Petri Sr.; two brothers, Frank and Clarence Breit and two sisters, Agnes and Helen Breit.


A Memorial Mass for Raymond was held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 13, 2011, at St. Andrew Catholic Church, W3081 County Highway Y in LeRoy. Father Tom Biersack officiated and entombment of his cremains followed in Calvary Cemetery in Fond du Lac.


Raymond’s family received relatives and friends at the church on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.


In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.


The Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home in Lomira was entrusted with Raymond’s arrangements.
