Raymond W. “Ray” Wellso, 87, of Lomira, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2009, at Hope Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lomira.
He was born on December 9, 1921, on the family farm in the town of LeRoy, the son of the late Walter and Ida (Coulter) Wellso, and on June 30, 1956, he was united in marriage to Ardys Lemke in Fremont.
Ray was a 1940 graduate of Mayville High School and a charter member of the Mayville FFA. He was a lifelong farmer on the family homestead, which will be recognized as a Century Farm in 2009 having been in the family for 107 years. He was an avid reader of newspapers, especially the Fond du Lac Reporter, and will be fondly remembered for his work at the Bethesda County Fair raising funds for the Bethesda Lutheran Home. Ray was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Lomira.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Ardys; three children, Glen Wellso of the town of LeRoy, Nyle (Debra) Wellso of LeRoy and Anne (David) Rinzel of Lomira; five granddaughters, Neela, Tia and Faith Rinzel, Miranda and Savannah Gallingan; a niece, Lynn (Gil) Forbes of Florida, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by a sister, Harriet (Earl) Wolfinger.
Funeral services for Ray were held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2009, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 300 Church Street in Lomira. Rev. John Hobbins officiated and burial was at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday in Emanuel Cemetery in the town of Lomira.
Relatives and friends called at the church on Friday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services.
