Rev. Marvin H. Volkmann, age 90, of West Bend, passed away Wednesday June 8, 2005 at the Samaritan Health Center.
He was born on December 28, 1914 in Milwaukee to the late Albert and Amelia (Nee Morawetz) Volkmann. He graduated from Northwestern Preparatory School in Watertown and later graduated from Northwestern College in Watertown in 1938. He then graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon in 1941. He was commissioned by Southeastern Wisconsin District Mission Board to serve his mission field at Globe, AZ in October of 1941. Marvin was then ordained in Globe, AZ on January 18, 1942. It was in Arizona that he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Schaefer on May 14, 1942. He continued to do the Lord's work in churches in Arizona, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, including Zion & St. Peters Ev. Lutheran Churchs in the town of Wayne from 1954-1958, and Grace Lutheran Church in Waukesha for 20 years, until his retirement in 1980.
His wife Elizabeth preceded him in death on December 19, 1978. He then was united in marriage to Florence Faber-Weber at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church on June 1, 1980.
He is survived by his wife, Florence; a stepson, Jonathan "Jack" (Kathy) Weber of Lansing, MI; two step-grandchildren, Nicole (Alexander) Waites of Rochester, MI, and Tiffany Weber of Lansing, MI; three sisters, Genevieve "Jane" Nares of Loveland, CO., May Turtenwald, and Esther Runte both of Milwaukee; three brothers, Albert Volkmann, Edward (Rita) Volkmann, and James Volkmann, all of Milwaukee; a sister-in-law, Inez Volkmann of Butternut; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Violet Volkmann, a half-sister, Agnes, and a brother, George Volkmann.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 11th at 3:00 pm at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, town of Wayne. Rev. Steve Bode will officiate and burial will follow in Zion Church Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday from 1:00 pm until the time of service.
