Richard W. Daggett, 81, was born on October 1, 1932, in Washburn, to parents, Lillian and Winfred Daggett. Later the family moved to Jackson.
Richard graduated with a B.C. Ziegler Scholarship from West Bend High School in 1950. In 1954 he graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with honors.
Richard spent two years in the seminary and was a student pastor for several years in the West Wisconsin Conference of the Methodist Church.
Following two years of service in the U. S. Army in Korea, he returned to teach for three years in the Delevan/Darien school system. Richard moved back to West Bend and began work as a teacher for the West Bend school system in 1962. During that time he earned a Master of Science Degree in School Administration from UW-Milwaukee. He became assistant principal and counselor and then was appointed principal of Silverbrook Middle School until resigning in June of 1983 to purchase a business in St. Petersburg, Florida. While in Florida, he also taught middle school at the Pinellas County Jewish Day School and later became principal of Highland Park School until its closing. Richard worked for the next five years as a supervisor in vocational services for Boley Behavioral Health Centers. He was named department employee of the year in 1997. Following retirement from Boley, Richard worked part-time for an additional six years doing testing for ASAP under Hospice.
Richard was a long-time member of Fifth Avenue Methodist Church in West Bend and a member for many years at First United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Richard was predeceased by his partner, Jon C. Markin, who died of Myelodysplasia/Refractory Anemia in 2010.
Graveside services for Richard were held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at Washington County Memorial Park, 1800 Paradise Drive in West Bend with Rev. Jeremy Deaner officiating. Burial was next to his parents and Jon C. Markin.
Memorials may be given to the churches mentioned above or to the American Cancer Society in memory of Jon or Richard.
The Brett Funeral Home in St. Petersburg assisted the family in Florida and the Miller Funeral Home in Kewaskum was entrusted with Richard's arrangements in Wisconsin.
