Richard J. Schmidt

June 2, 1936 — April 2, 2006

Richard J. Schmidt, age 69, of the town of Trenton, West Bend, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2006, at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on June 2, 1936, in Milwaukee to the late Joseph and Margaret (nee Calabrese) Schmidt. He was raised in West Milwaukee and graduated from Boys Tech High School. He then served in the U.S. Army.

On June 1, 1957, Richard was united in marriage to Rosemary Reiff at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in West Milwaukee and they made their home in Wauwatosa. They moved to the town of Trenton in 1990.

Richard worked as an Optician for Victory Opticians in Milwaukee until 2001. He then worked part-time for Paramount Optical in Glendale, until retiring in January of 2006.

He attended St. Augustine Catholic Church in the town of Trenton. Richard was a long time member of the Milwaukee Boat Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in Alaska, Wyoming, and Canada. He also enjoyed vacationing in Jamaica.

Richard is survived by his wife, Rosemary; three children, Kurt Schmidt of Delta Junction, AK, Aimee (Randy) Liepert of West Bend, and Kathleen (Jeff) Hanson of West Bend; three grandchildren, Ian Liepert, Kayla Hanson, and Amanda Hanson; three sisters, Edith (Don) Severns of Spokane, WA, Germaine Stenzel of Columbus, and CarmelAnn Schmidt of Milwaukee; a brother, Edward (Nancy) Schmidt of Sister Bay; a sister-in-law, Kathryn Lacey of Green Bay; other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial for Richard will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 8th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Newburg. Rev. Guy Gurath will be the celebrant. Visitation will be Saturday at the church only, from 12:00 Noon until the time of Mass. Cremation will follow at Myrhum-Patten Funeral and Cremation Service with burial of Richard's cremated remains to be held at a later date at St. Augustine Cemetery in the town of Trenton.
