Richard Schmitz

July 3, 1944 — December 13, 2012

Richard "Dick" Schmitz, 68, passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at The Kathy Hospice. His family was at his side after a short battle with cancer.

Richard was born on July 3, 1944 in Cashton, WI, son of the late Raymond and Frances (Frederick) Schmitz.

Before moving to West Bend, Richard worked on his family's farm in Cashton. Richard served in the Army National Guard from 1965-1971. He also began working for the West Bend Company in 1965 and retired in 2010 after 45 years.

In his free time, Richard enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard work, watching the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers, and spending time with his family. He also liked to volunteer at the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #1398, where he was a member.

Along with his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his son, Michael.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Janet (Smith) Schmitz; his daughter, Theresa Schmitz; two sisters, Joan Schreier and Anita (Ray) Zimmerman, both of West Bend; three brothers, Alred (Alice) Schmitz, Walter (Emily) Schmitz, and Carlton (Lori) Schmitz, all of Cashton. He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial in remembrance of Dick will be held on Tuesday, December 18th at 12:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1610 Monroe Street, West Bend. Visitation will be at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, 1315 W. Washington Street, West Bend on Monday from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. followed by a rosary service. A visitation will also be on Tuesday at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the mass.

His family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Colin Mooney and the staff at Kathy Hospice for their compassion and care.
