Robert "Bob" Backhaus, age 69, of the town of Trenton, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2008 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on June 10, 1939 in the town of Scott, to the late Arno and Elda (nee Ramel) Backhaus. Bob graduated from Random Lake High School in the class of 1957. On July 23, 1960 he married Lylalee Williams at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the town of Scott.
Bob drove truck for Hawthorn Melloddy Dairy in Milwaukee for 5 years prior to his employment with West Bend Transit for 31 years before retiring at the age of 56. He enjoyed golfing at Hon-E-Kor and numerous other courses, spending time with his friends at the V.F.W., playing guitar and singing in the band "Mountainers" in his earlier years.
He is survived by his wife, Lyla of the town of Trenton; two children, John (Dawn) Backhaus of the town of Farmington and Jill (Chad) Smith of Kewaskum; five grandchildren, Beau Backhaus and Aly Backhaus of the town of Farmington, Bridget Herriges of Milwaukee, Brad Herriges of Oshkosh and Cade Smith of Kewaskum; three sisters, Doris Frost, Mavis Zitzelsberger, Marian (Douglas) White; a sister-in-law, Chris (Jeff) Schiessl; many other relatives and close friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his son, James; his brother, Carl; two sisters, Mildred (Arthur) Gerpoltz, Margaret (Harold) Lankabel; and two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Frost and Norbert Zitzelsberger.
A memorial service in remembrance of Bob will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 5:00 pm at Myrhum-Patten Funeral & Cremation Service (1315 W. Washington Street) West Bend. Fred Seefeldt will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday at the funeral home from 3:00 until the time of service. Burial will be at Lutheran Memorial Park in Kewaskum. Memorials to the charity of your choice are appreciated.
