Robert L. "Bob" Boerger, age 89, of West Bend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Cedar Community. Bob was born on December 12, 1924 to the late Walter H. and Lillie (nee Knippel) Boerger in West Bend. On May 20, 1950, Bob was united in marriage to Lyla Liepert at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend. Together they built their home in "Gopherville" in the town of Barton and resided there for a majority of their life prior to moving to the city of West Bend. Robert began his career working for Regal Ware and later worked for the Washington County Highway Department for 28 years, retiring in 1986. Bob also owned his own septic tank business which he operated from 1962 until 1983. During retirement, Bob and Lyla worked part time for Boerger Floral, and Bob also worked at Super Wash in West Bend.
Robert was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was also a member of the West Bend Moose Lodge #1398. In his free time, Robert enjoyed the peacefulness of fishing up north on Big Sand Lake, Packer Football, and shaking dice.
Robert is survived by his two children, Daniel (April) Boerger of Random Lake and Cheryl (Michael) Hay of West Bend; two Grandchildren, Angela (Todd) Nitecki of Milwaukee and Jeremy Boerger of Menomonee Falls; two step -grandchildren, Katharine "Katie" Brokaw of Random Lake, Zachery (Alisha) Brokaw of Sun City, CA; three step- great grand-children, Amelia Lee of Random Lake, and Hope and Mariah Brokaw of Sun City, CA; five sisters- in -law, Beverly Boerger of West Bend, Janice (Allen Kempf) Liepert of Chilton, Myrtle Liepert of West Bend, Gloria Liepert of Kewaskum, and LaVerne Junge of Random Lake; two brothers -in- law, Ralph (Marilyn) Liepert of West Bend, and Willis (Janis) Liepert of Random Lake; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lyla in 2011; his son Darryl Boerger; a brother, Walter E. Boerger Jr.; two sisters, June (Ed) Coburn and Audrey Boerger; four brothers -in-law, Lloyd Liepert, Elton "Bud" Liepert, Wallace Junge, and Myron "Mike" Siebenaler; three sisters-in-law, Luella Liepert, Verna (Glen) Grasse, and Lois Junge.
Funeral services in remembrance of Bob will be held on Friday January 3rd with Loyal Order of the Moose starting at 6:00 pm and church service to immediately follow at Trinity Lutheran Church (140 N. 7th Ave.) West Bend. Pastors David and Cristy Schoob will co- officiate. Burial will be in Washington County Memorial Park on Saturday January 4th at 10:00 am. Visitation will be held on Friday at the church from 4:00 pm until the time of the service.
Memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church of West Bend are appreciated by the family.
