On April 2nd of 2022, Robert Gorman Van Hook, passed away at the age of 75. He decided he was ready to release his spirit from this earthly dimension. To soar amidst the sweet morning chorus of spring birds outside his open window, and with respect to ancestral Danish traditions.
While we have only recently discovered that he was born in the early morning hours of July 14, 1946 in Palestine, Arkansas to Charles and Virginia (nee Gorman) Van Hook. To our knowledge he never married nor had any children. Robert valued his privacy and independence. His heart and passion belonged to the creation of Art. "Without art, the crudeness of reality would make the world unbearable" George Bernard Shaw.
Robert enjoyed engaging in a healthy debate and intelligent and / or philosophical conversation, almost as much as he did the fine Arts and conversing with the ladies. Robert was known for sharing, delightfully corny, witty or questionable humorous jokes. He will be remembered for his caring, humble and generous heart. He would let you know how much he valued you, with a thankful word, a thoughtful gesture or simply a hug.
Later in life, Robert was faced with a blank white canvas. He chose to create something of worth and beauty that would mark his current journey. A carefully selected "found family" portrait slowly began to emerge over the years to fill the empty space left upon his wall.
Those found family members Robert leaves behind to cherish his memory include Lois Majerus, Mike Falker, and Mr. & Mrs. Jeff McGee. He is further survived by nieces, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his only known brother, Charles.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later weather appropriate date (in honor of Robert’s great love for all things in nature and mother earth).
We would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Interfaith Caregivers of Washington County, Preceptor Home Health Hospice, and The Waterford at West Bend, for all their support, care and compassion.
And special thank you goes out to Robert’s personal care team.
With my deepest love, appreciation and gratitude, until we meet again in the vast starry, starry night...Here's a heartfelt hug from me specifically for YOU!
