Robert L. Kietzer

Robert L. “Bob” Kietzer, 68, of Lomira, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2009, at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac.


He was born on April 14, 1940, in Fond du Lac, the son of the late Lester and Bernice (Beitz) Kietzer, and on July 27, 1963, he was united in marriage to Jane Smith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lomira.

Bob was baptized, confirmed, attended grade school, married, served on the church council and coached the girls basketball team at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lomira. He was a graduate of Lomira High School, attended U.W. Oshkosh and was a graduate of the Wisconsin Institute of Mortuary Science, Milwaukee in 1968. Bob was the owner and operator of Kietzer Furniture/Funeral Home, which had been in the family since 1918.


He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1958-1961. Bob was a member of the Lomira Lions Club, the Lomira Area Chamber of Commerce, Lomira Sportsman’s Club, Lakeshore Funeral Directors Association, Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association.


During his lifetime he enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, camping, traveling and gardening. He had a gift of gab and a great sense of humor, which some abhorred, but many enjoyed.


Survivors include his wife, Jane of Lomira; his children, Kerri (Randy) Waas of Ashford, Kraig (Kelli) Kietzer of Lomira, Kurt (Kristine) Kietzer of Brillion, Kandice (Craig) Maxwell of Lomira; his grandchildren, Ryan and Amanda Waas, Kelsey, Kayce and Kylie Kietzer, Katie, Karalyn and Kallie Kietzer, Jordyn and Lexi Maxwell; his siblings, Barbara (Morris) Rose, Sharon (Alfred) Kohli and Michael (Laurene) Kietzer all of Lomira; his mother-in-law, Rose Smith of King; his sister-in-law, Annette (Richard) Rietz of Arizona; three brothers-in-law, Allen, Wayne and Edward Smith all of Waupaca, other relatives, and friends.


In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kim and his father-in-law, Russell Smith.


Funeral services for Bob were held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 550 Water Street in Lomira. Rev. Dan Schmidt officiated and burial was at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday in the church cemetery.


Relatives and friends called on Wednesday at the church from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services.


In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated.


Bob’s family greatly appreciated the care provided by Hospice Home Care and Hospice Home of Hope.
