Robert E. Retzlaff

Robert E. Retzlaff, 74, of Fond du Lac, formerly of Lomira, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at All About Life Rehabilitation Center in Fond du Lac.

He was born on June 13, 1938, in the town of Herman, the son of the late Edmund and Augusta (Maske) Retzlaff, and on July 6, 1963, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Lau at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lomira.

Robert served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. Robert was a member of the Bintzler-Waehler American Legion Post 347 Lomira, the Winnebago Lutheran Academy Executive Board and Plenary Board, Faith Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac and a former member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lomira where he was active on church committees and served on the school board.

Those Robert leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 49 years, Bonnie; two daughters, Natalie (Greg) Kurczewksi of Vienna, Virginia and Shana (Scott) Beyersdorf of Milwaukee; two brothers, Edward (Martha) Retzlaff of Ocononowoc and Melvin Retzlaff of Mayville; two sisters, Bernice (Virgil) Metke and Marian Zuehlke both of Mayville; two brothers-in-law, Peter Beistle of West Bend and Raymond Voight of Mayville; four sisters-in-law, Margaret Meyer of Mayville, Adeline Retzlaff of Fond du Lac, Marcene Rooney of San Diego, California and Rae Nell (Ray) Halbur of Fond du Lac, six step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by five brothers, Milton, Aaron (Gertrude), Vernon, Arnold (Mabel) and Marvin Retzlaff and three sisters, Erna (Myron) Ehlers, Eleanor Voight and Marlene Beistle.

Funeral services for Robert were held at noon on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Faith Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac with Rev. Michael Weigand officiating. Burial, with military honor rites by members of Bintzler-Waehler American Legion Post 347 Lomira, was in St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lomira.

The Retzlaff family greeted relatives and friends at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated.

The Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home in Lomira was entrusted with Robert’s arrangements.
