Rodney J. Gindt, 72, of Lomira, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at Hospice Home of Hope in Fond du Lac after a courageous six month battle with cancer.


He was born on May 28, 1939, in the town of Lomira, the son of the late Barney and Florence (Lehman) Gindt, and was a 1957 graduate of Lomira High School.


On October 3, 1959, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Dreikosen at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Ashford. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2009.


Rodney farmed the family homestead. He loved the land and especially appreciated the woodlot on the farm. Family picnics in the woods provided some of his most precious memories.


Rodney enjoyed golfing with Lester Unferth’s Golf Group, flying RC airplanes and watching the Green Bay Packers. He was a member of the Fond du Lac Aeromodelers and Bay City Flyers RC clubs. Rodney will always be remembered for his sense of fun and as a loving husband and father, a caring brother and friend.


Those Rodney leaves behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Kathleen; his daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Butch Hoelscher of New Port Richey, Florida; two granddaughters, Bridget (Paul) Leppin of Webster, Florida and Valerie (Brian) Garoutte of West Palm Beach, Florida and four great-grandchildren, Kelsey Jandreau, Conner and Krissa Garoutte and Kyla Leppin.


He is further survived by his dear sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Ernie Kraus of Fond du Lac and his brother and sister-in-law, John and Lilly Gindt of Lomira; nieces and nephews, Mark Gindt (Joannie Grosenick), Brenda (Jim) O’Brien, Tony (Joanne) Gindt, Brian (Sharon) Gindt and Myron Kraus (Vanessa Watts); great-nieces, Melissa Gindt, Elizabeth (Lucas) Smith and their daughter, Baileigh and Everest Kraus; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bill (Carol) Dreikosen, Betty (Russell) Bodden and Mike (Sheryl) Dreikosen and their children, Debbie (Kurt) Boldt, Jim Bodden, Patty (Dirk) Milsted, Tammy (Steve) Downham, Bob (Jennifer) Dreikosen, Rick (Amy) Dreikosen, Paul and Alex Dreikosen; great-nieces and nephews, Collin and Conner Boldt, Anna Milsted, Kira and Alyssa Downham, J.J., Austin and Ashley Dreikosen; special friends, Dennis and Cindy Sieke, Bill and Marilyn Ries, Glen Kippenhan, Chris Thelen, the Kazmierczak family, the Peters family; his godson, Mike Weninger, other relatives and friends.


In addition to his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen Gindt and two brothers, Barnabus and Norman Gindt.


A Memorial Service for Rodney was held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 6, 2011, at the Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home in Lomira.


Rodney’s family received visitors at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
