Roger E. Sterr, 90, of Lomira, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2012, at Hope Health and Rehabilitation Center in Lomira.
He was born on August 25, 1922, in Lomira, the son of the late Melvin C. and Mary (Hesprich) Sterr, and on February 14, 1946, he was united in marriage to Bernice Burgert at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Theresa. Married on Valentine’s Day, Roger and Bernice enjoyed a love affair marriage for 66 years.
Roger served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II from 1942-46. He managed the family owned business, Star Malt and Grain Company from 1946 until retirement. Roger was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lomira and a life-long member of Bintzler-Waehler American Legion Post 347 Lomira, where he held many offices including commander.
Roger was well known in Lomira for his woodworking talents. In his workshop he created many beautiful wooden keepsakes and drew the blueprints for their dream home where Roger and Bernice enjoyed living for the last 20 years.
Roger and Bernice loved to travel, visiting every state in the union. Roger will fondly be remembered as a “good guy” and will be deeply missed by his wife, his family and by all who knew him.
Those Roger leaves behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Bernice; two brothers, Ambrose (Lois) Sterr of Wrightstown and Tom (Judy) Sterr of Hot Springs, Arkansas; a sister-in-law, Veronica Sterr of Slinger, very special nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Sterr.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Roger was held at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 12, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 699 Milwaukee Street in Lomira with Fr. Dennis Budka officiating. Military honor rites by members of the Bintzler-Waehler American Legion Post 347 Lomira followed Mass at the American Legion Post in Lomira. Entombment was at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday in Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in Fond du Lac.
Relatives and friends called at the church on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Lomira Library or the charity of one’s choice were appreciated.
The Kietzer-Miller Funeral Home in Lomira was entrusted with Roger’s arrangements.
