Roland Nickel

July 27, 1920 — November 11, 2011

Roland W. Nickel, age 91, of the town of Wayne, passed away on Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk.

He was born on July 27, 1920 on the family farm in the town of Wayne to the late Robert and Leonora (nee Pamperin) Nickel. On September 23, 1944 Roland was united in marriage to Bernice Minz. She preceded him in death on September 5, 1981. Roland later married Shirley Bruessel on July 27, 1991. She preceded him in death on February 19, 2008.

Roland farmed in the town of Wayne and also worked at American Motors in Milwaukee for 15 years. He retired in 1991 but continued to help his son, Duane, on the farm.

Roland was a life member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church.

He is survived by 11 children, David (Ann) Nickel of Canyon Lake, CA, Marilyn Schmalz of West Bend; Delores (Jerry) Crago of West Bend; Dianne (Harry) Disler of Theresa, Dennis (Sue) Nickel of Slinger, Dale (Janet) Nickel of West Bend, Darvin (Jane) Nickel of Mayville, Donald (Eileen) Nickel of Newburg, Duane (Linda) Nickel of Theresa, Darrel (special friend, Jane) Nickel of St. Kilian, and Dawn (Brian) McCambridge of Campbellsport; 31 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marcella Christian of Mayville and Arlene Rusch of Jackson; other relatives and friends.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Deborah Schairer; sister, Evelyn Christian; and brother, Melvin Nickel.

A visitation in remembrance of Roland will be held at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, 6438 Hwy. D, Allenton, on Monday, November 14th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 noon. Rev. Steve Bode will officiate and burial will follow in Zion Church Cemetery.

Memorials in Roland's name to the Kathy Hospice are appreciated by the family.
